Meghalaya has good mineral resources. Its rock formations containing deposits of coal, limestone and uranium among others. But its economy is predominantly agrarian. Two thirds of the work performed by its inhabitants are related to agriculture. Flights to Shillong. Their farming systems are very old and do not use modern techniques for greater productivity. It is said that one third of the population is below the poverty line.
