The fact that this fifth metatarsal fracture is not a nice experience, but you should be thankful because it is only one of the minor metatarsal fractures, as this metatarsal does not bear much weight. The reason why the other fractures in the metatarsals are major because the others are more involved in weightbearing activities. The treatment may vary depending on the severity and the extent of displacement. Strapping and a stiff shoe may be all that is needed for the treatment if in case the fracture is just a crack of the bone and there is no displacement, but if there is a complete break but still no displacement, then it will be put in a walking plaster. Surgical pinning is indicated in worse case such that there is some displacement.
