Pathology of Jones fracture

Jones fracture was first described and written about in 1902 by Sir Robert Jones who was an orthopedic surgeon. His first case description of this type of fracture was one that occurred in himself. This is how it became known as the Jones fracture. A Jones fracture is a particular type of fracture that occurs at the base of the fifth or outer metatarsal of the foot. It is very different to an avulsion fracture of the base of the fifth metatarsal which is when the tendon of peroneus brevis pulls of a piece of the bone. Even though both fractures occur in the same region, they are considered different fracture. The best thing to do is to be aware of the different kinds of fractures.
