Many of us are unaware of scalp acne. Infact, many interpret dandruff as scalp acne. However, there is much more to it.
Mild scalp acne is small and brittle in nature and usually appears on the upper forehead region and at the hairline. On the other hand, severe scalp acne appears over the entire scalp region covered with hair and is usually black in color. Certain micro organisms like bacteria, yeast and mites are responsible for growth of scalp acne in the form of large inflamed cysts.

Regular usage of shampoos containing salicylic acid effectively counters the growth of scalp acne. For mild scalp acne, using the topical over the counter antibiotics is useful. While for a severe case, a visit to a dermatologist is must.
